As tributes continue to pour in following the death Ozzy Osbourne, British artist Yungblud has shared a deeply moving message, offering a glimpse into a personal connection with the Prince of Darkness that left a lasting impact on the rising star’s life and artistry.
“I didn’t think you would leave so soon the last time we met you were so full of life and your laugh filled up the room. But as it is written with legends, they seem to know things that we don’t,” wrote Yungblud.
“I will never forget you – you will be in every single note I sing and with me every single time I walk on stage. Your cross around my neck is the most precious thing I own. You asked me once if there was anything you could do for me and as I said then and as I will say now for all of us the music was enough. You took us on your adventure – an adventure that started it all. I am truly heartbroken. You were the greatest of all time.”
At the Back to the Beginning tribute concert, one of the most emotionally charged moments came when Yungblud took the stage to perform a stirring rendition of “Changes,” one of Black Sabbath‘s most introspective and haunting ballads.
Originally released in 1972 on the band’s Vol. 4 album, “Changes” marked a rare moment of vulnerability for Black Sabbath, showcasing a softer, more emotional side of Ozzy. The song’s melancholy piano line and reflective lyrics about loss and transformation resonated deeply with audiences then — and hit even harder in the context of Ozzy‘s farewell.
Yungblud‘s performance was both reverent and raw. Dressed simply and illuminated by somber stage lighting, he delivered the song with palpable grief, his voice cracking slightly as he reached for the same emotional register that Ozzy once did more than 50 years ago.
Ozzy may be gone, but as Yungblud so eloquently put it, “You took us on your adventure – an adventure that started it all.” And for countless artists and fans, that journey continues.
