Live Out Your Tokyo Drift Dreams With This VeilSide Mazda RX-7

  • Replica RX-7 mirrors Han’s Tokyo Drift car with a genuine VeilSide bodykit.
  • Its 1.3-liter turbo rotary was upgraded and now runs a tuned Haltech ECU.
  • Interior adds a Haltech digital dash, infotainment system, and carbon trim.

The long-running Fast & Furious franchise has delivered a mix of highs and lows over the years, but for car enthusiasts, 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift remains the standout. It wasn’t just another sequel; it was a film that cemented several Japanese performance cars as cultural icons, none more so than the Mazda RX-7.

During the film, Han piloted a heavily-modified RX-7 equipped with a VeilSide bodykit and painted in a combination of orange and black. It may have looked more like a European supercar than an original, but it was no doubt one of the standouts from the film.

Next month, an RX-7 just like Han’s will hit the auction block, and it’s bound to get Fast & Furious fans talking.

A total of nine VeilSide RX-7s were built for Tokyo Drift. While the car heading to auction is technically a replica, its resemblance to the on-screen version is spot-on with one exception: it is left-hand drive, which makes it far more practical for American roads.

Mecum Auctions is handling the sale of the car and confirms it’s been fitted with a genuine VeilSide Fortune bodykit. The 1.3-liter turbocharged rotary engine has also been completely rebuilt and now includes an equal-length lower intake manifold, an upgraded BorgWarner turbocharger, a Haltech ECU, an upgraded fuel system, and a new Greddy intercooler.

Power figures haven’t been disclosed, though it’s fair to assume there’s more than enough on tap to overwhelm the rear tires.

This Mazda rides on custom BC Forged three-piece wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. It also benefits from coilover suspension, upgraded brakes with stainless steel lines, and a MagnaFlow midpipe paired with an aftermarket exhaust system.

Some welcome changes have been made to the cabin. Alongside the Haltech digital dash, there’s a new double-din infotainment system, carbon fiber trim on the center console, and a new shift knob. The speakers have been replaced, so the next owner can listen to the Tokyo Drift soundtrack while behind the wheel if they so wish.

Whether you’re chasing nostalgia or just want to look dangerously cool at a stoplight, this RX-7 delivers the goods. Check out the listing at Mecum over here and see if your wallet and your driveway are ready for Han’s spirit to live again.
