1979 Triumph Spitfire 1500 for sale on BaT Auctions – ending May 25 (Lot #193,268)

This 1979 Triumph Spitfire 1500 is powered by a 1.5-liter inline-four that is equipped with a single Zenith-Stromberg carburetor and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Finished in Brooklands Green (HAE) over tan vinyl with houndstooth inserts, the car features a black convertible soft top and a tan boot cover. Additional details include a rear luggage rack, chrome bumpers, front disc brakes, 13″ steel wheels, a wood-veneer dashboard, and a JVC head unit. Acquired by the seller in 2019, this Spitfire was previously offered on BaT in December 2021 and is now offered again with a clean South Carolina title in the seller’s name.

The Spitfire was introduced in 1962 and manufactured through 1980, and the 1500 was the final model offered from 1975 to 1980. This example is finished in Brooklands Green (HAE) and features a black convertible top, a top boot, a driver-side mirror, and a rear luggage rack. The front bumper, trunk handle and lock, and right door handle have been replaced. Images of the top in the raised position are viewable in the previous auction gallery.

The 13″ steel wheels wear Triumph center caps and polished trim rings, and they are mounted with 175/70 Aspen Touring A/S tires. Stopping power is provided by front discs and rear drums. Work performed in January 2021 included replacement of the rear wheel cylinders and a brake fluid flush. The leaf springs, sway bars, ball joints, and tie rod ends were replaced under previous ownership.

The bucket seats are trimmed in tan vinyl with houndstooth fabric inserts. Interior elements include a wood-veneer dashboard and a Sports Car Club of America dash medallion. A JVC head unit and aftermarket speakers were installed under current ownership.

A three-spoke steering wheel with a replacement leather cover fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for fuel level and engine temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 29k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added under current ownership.
