1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS for sale on BaT Auctions – ending September 18 (Lot #210,333)

This 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS is one of approximately 2,900 E-series examples produced through July 1974 and was delivered new to Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo Ferrari in Portland, Oregon. Originally finished in Azzurro Dino, chassis 08076 underwent a color change to black, an interior re-trim, and a mechanical overhaul as part of a refurbishment performed by F40 Motorsports of Portland, Connecticut, in 2007 and 2008. The car features a removable roof panel and rides on 14″ Cromodora five-lug alloy wheels mounted over ventilated disc brakes at all four corners. Power is provided by a 2.4-liter V6 equipped with triple Weber carburetors that is mated to a five-speed manual transaxle. Inside, Daytona-style seats trimmed in black leather with gray accents are accompanied by a MOMO steering wheel and a gated shifter along with a Becker stereo and Borletti air conditioning. This E-series 246 GTS is now offered on dealer consignment with a Dino Compendium report, manufacturer’s literature with leather pouch, a jack, a tool kit, and a clean Florida title.

With bodywork designed by Aldo Brovarone and Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina, the prototype 206 GT first appeared at the 1965 Paris Auto Salon and was followed by revised concepts at the 1966 and 1967 Turin Motor Shows. The 2.0L-powered 206 entered production in early 1968 and was later superseded by the 2.4L-powered 246, which was offered in GT coupe and GTS targa-top variants beginning in 1969 and 1971, respectively.

The steel bodywork on this E-Series example was delivered from the factory finished in Azzurro Dino. The car was disassembled and stripped to bare metal before it underwent a repaint in black by F40 Motorsports in 2007. US-market lighting includes recessed rectangular front turn signals, side markers, and rear reflectors inboard of the taillights. Additional exterior features include a removable roof panel, a power antenna, and quad ANSA exhaust finishers as well as chrome bumperettes with rubber guards.

The 14″ Cromodora five-lug alloy wheels wear Dino-branded center caps and are mounted with 205/70 Michelin XWX tires. A matching spare wheel and tire are stored in the front trunk. The suspension incorporates unequal-length A-arms, coilover shock absorbers, and anti-roll bars at front and rear. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted ventilated disc brakes all around.

The cabin was re-trimmed by Coachtrim of Danbury, Connecticut, as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. The Daytona-style seats are upholstered in black leather with gray accents and feature seatback-mounted headrests, while gray “mouse-fur” dash trim covers the dash. Black carpets with gray binding line the floors, and further appointments include a Becker Mexico AM/FM cassette stereo and Borletti air conditioning along with power windows.

The wheel frames Dino-branded Veglia Borletti instrumentation including a tachometer with a 7,750-rpm redline accompanied by a 170-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for oil temperature, coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 25k miles, approximately 100 of which were added under current ownership.
